Well, I think it will be exactly like Iraq. I do not know how politically stable Iran will be in case of a war. I also doubt that the lot of Iran actually maintains a strong loyalty to their own country, very much like Iraq, where the US found allies rather quickly. This time, Israel will also lend it's hand, and all nations who do not want to risk the wrath of the US will blockade Iran.
HOWEVER;
I think that Russia and China will be major players in these events. Just like in Syria, they have their own man, not exactly their own man, but Iran is of mostly symbolic value to them. Just like Vietnam was for both sides during the cold war.
Losing Iran would mean that their word in this table of wolves is mostly worthless. I'm sure that in this regard, they will support Iran, with whatever they have, maybe even going as far as to battling the US.
Of course, it certainly will not go as far as that. I'm sure it will be settled in some other way, but Iran will not be attacked, of that I'm sure.

I also know that Iran's uranium enrichment plan is so painfully slow that it has taken them many years to get where they are, and they are still quite short of a nuclear weapon. So, I do not buy into the urgency of this matter.
They do have the capability to make AOD dirty bombs at the moment. However, I do not think they'd want to waste that advantage just yet.
Not to mention, the Israeli assasinations of super-valuble resources (i.e. Nuclear Physicists and Engineers) constantly keeps them behind. Fact that the Iranians lost a missile site, a Revolutionary Guard general who was all for ICBM capabilities, etc to a "mysterious" explosion makes me sleep better at night.
I agree with your analysis, and that this appears to be America attempting to muster the dutch courage to attack Iran, which will not end well economically for the US.
The only people who will be enriched by this is the 1% who own the Military-Industrial complex.
It is those people who will be responsible for crashing our economy and ending our super power status.
All because they need to make a fucking buck.
Not right away, maybe, but it certainly is in better hands after the US hands it to a US puppet.
Not that I'd not be happy with the end of your super-power status, but I'd not know who to put as a balance if you should drop out. Until we form Turan, it's best that the US stays put where it is on the international scales, but it's not up to me either. I think that the US won't lose it's super-power status even if it attacks Iran, as Iran is nothing in comparison with the US, should the US wage total war, and not just a "war of liberation" like it did in Iraq.
