Kitten, don't take it too personally. You don't realize how often we have heard the same story, over and over and over again from believers who refuse to look at any evidence and use a little common sense when it comes to the Bible or for that matter a "god".
I'll say it again..It's one thing to believe in a "Higher Power/Creator" of some sort...But to try and narrow that down by a religion which tells you theirs is the correct one and everyone else has it wrong, is a joke, and in all honesty people should be outraged over it. Just for the pure fact of it being an insult to someones intelligence, (That is, if that person is actually rational or has a bit of common sense to them).
Religious people (Includes, Christians, Islam, Judean) all declare theirs to be the holiest of holy, and literally define any other as blasphemy and/or simply wrong. It's absolutely ludicrous and mere stupidity for any sect to declare this.
Your evidence for what you believe is within your own self and observation of others who believe the same as you do. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but still does not make your faith and belief any more factual than what the Greek, Nords and Indians believed a few thousand years ago.
It just simply makes it your faith and belief.
My issue (And many others the same) is when people take their faith and belief and try and force it on others or have laws changed to suit their sect, regardless of what others think or do not believe in.
I believe you stated you were from Louisiana...Well, same here, and our state is a prime example of stupidity taking over in trying to force faith based opinions on our children in the classrooms. I am fed up with religious groups forcing their rose covered vomit on our children, and hiding behind a plagiarized fairy tale book when actions are taken and responsibility is ignored.

Intelligence is the only true moral guide...
