For constructive discussion, the rules more often are relaxed to allow for such.
When you stop and think about it, the rules really are here to deal with the unfortunate cases of people being... less than kind. We're not interested in killing the next debate or rational inspection of some idea. We're interested in keeping the weeds out of the garden (and into my pipe) so the flowers can bloom.
