Fucking morons.
In reality space exploration more than likely won't be like that for a VERY long time, if it will ever be like that at all. It's more than a little naive to think that these leaders would ever expect that they would go down in history as 'great leaders who ushered in a new age'. It's just as naive to think that all of what you mentioned is plausible at all. What do you seriously think they would do? What would anyone do, given their situation? Politicians aren't there to push space exploration, they're there to run countries. Unfortunately it seems at this present time space exploration isn't top of the agenda for running countries, maybe you hadn't noticed that, as sad as it is.
They may be incredibly inept at doing what they're supposed to do, I'll grant you that, but calling them 'fucking morons' for not doing what is in your fantasy head is pretty obnoxious in my opinion.
