People are pretty connected to their emotions. Like I said, we can see what happens when empathy isn't developed in sociopaths. Furthermore, in addition to empathy, children have to be taught right from wrong, so empathy is not the whole of morality. It is more like a base block or a foundation to build on.
Ok the way I see it.
God is love. So love is a foundation.
God is beautiful. Being of beautiful character for example, like disputting with good manners, etc, all this is part of morality.
God is just, so justice is a foundation.
At any rate, this seems to give morality it's life force.
Discussing with people, it often comes down to doing what makes us feel better. People often respond to the question of why empathy?
Because it makes me feel good. Why do you feel good and why should you feel good?
There is no should, I just do.
It's empty. It's cold. It's void. It's selfish.
To me morality speaks of an authority to the infinite degree.
We should love others and care about others, and the should in that is ultimate infinite authority.
It's absolute.
We should feel good when we do good to others, and the should in that, is to the infinite degree.
We should feel good because it's good. And really because of God, because God is Ultimate morality.
I feel this is the morality I know and knew.
This empty ethics of this century people are purposing is just too dry.
Goodness however isn't dry. It's higher levels is beautiful and honourable and high.
