Go back and re read my OP. Nowhere did I ever claim a cure all for humanity, and I also stated the fact of evolution that it will ALWAYS produce irrational claims. ALWAYS.
What IS destructive about religion is that it is a DISTRACTION. If we can get more people to put it on the back burner instead of treating it as life and death our world could be more peacefulI am not suggesting we can use force to purge people from claiming absurd claims. I am merely saying that we always maintain the ability to question to keep all forms of fascism at bay.
Political parties also are a form of dogmatism. Stalin's communism was worship of the the state. And even outside the issue of government social norms such as "honor" in the family have produced MURDER of daughters in Islam and Hinduism if they refuse to enter a pre arranged marriage.
ANY CLAIM, IDEA, SOCIAL NORM has the potential to become worshiped. Right now globally religion is the biggest offender. Only the ability to question can be humanity's leash on preventing monopolies of power.
Religion has always had a history of stifling progress. It always has to be drug by the questioners into the future. "Religion" ISN'T just about god claims, it is anything that is worshiped, and that can include political ideologies.
