In my place of birth, the majority population is now asian by a large majority, and preference is given in employment to applicants from that ethnic group.
You are kidding. There is a law that says Asians get a preference? Positive discrimination...wow. I'm not sure how that can be positive. So they are now the majority but they get perks as if they were a minority? That is what is happening in America. Some of the groups that used to be minorities are becomming the majority. No one should get preference. It should always go by qualifications when it comes to getting a job. If I were an employer I'd want the best candidate for my position regardless of race or sex. Some say that women are discriminated against when getting a job. I think that overweight or unattractive women lose jobs to more attractive women. How we can fix that I'm not sure. I guess we can't fix it. I was hired to work at a gym and the manager told me I was hired because I was attractive and physically fit. He said "How am I going to sell health if a fat unattractive woman is trying to represent my business? Fat women see you...and they want to be like you and the rest of my workers...that imroves business." Of course he would have never said that in public but it happens in a lot of places. I felt bad about it but that's the way it goes. We already have laws that prevent discrimination by employers based on race, religion, sex, disability, and sexual orientation. If anyone feels they have been a victim of discrimination based on those aspects then they can file a complaint. We don't need affirmative action on top of the laws we already have in place.
