As for the "greening" of our industries this has been going on and I would say that Urban planner should be at the top of the list as THE best job to go for, this would also include architects/designers and landscape architects. ALL rather small exclusive fields and so not contributing to the "billions of jobs".
I HAVE found that it is not viable to do R&D as the incentives put forward by governments are not enough to sustain start-up companies here in Oz and the current "Big Mining Companies" bashing is having a rather unanticipated domino affect of the rest of industry. The grab for the Carbon Tax dollar is killing any entrepreneurship that might just fturn the whole economy around ...meh
