To me this path of life is not only "strange". It seems just shameful and also encourages indecency. Just let me explain based on observations from my country.
In Poland almost all priests are Catholic since catholicism aggressively eliminated other religions such as the protestant etc. which became marginalized with an almost non-existent number of believers. Therefore, I shall only focus on the path of the Catholic priests.
Well, priests are well known here for having expensive cars and expensive meals. Their source of income is not based on any kind of productive work. It is essentially what one would call taxation. In every neighbourhood there is a church which drains the adjacent households. On Sundays the sheep are supposed to head to the house of imaginary God to receive their weekly brainwash. Apart from the steady flow of small amounts from the Sunday mass there are also significant amounts for special service such as wedding or funeral. A wedding costs a couple of typical monthly salaries, a funeral is like half of it or one third. Additional source is the so called education or shall I say de-education. In Poland religion is taught by priests at schools just like an ordinary subject with grades which are ironically equally important as maths etc.
The immoral aspect is twofold. Firstly, the priests do not do anything productive other than messing with people's minds and private lives. Still, they posess the goods many honest workers cannot afford. Secondly, they are not officially allowed to have intercourse with women although they are allowed to preach about the proper manner of such intercourse
But more importantly, they do engage in intercourse with women when going to discos without their "uniform" or even rape underage girls or boys. The first results in occasional scandals of pregnancies which are often aborted, the second is usually promptly covered up.
