Yeah, it would be nice if we could get that now. Instead, Boehner gets 98% of what he wants in budget battles by holding the economy hostage.

Quote:You also pointed out that Clinton was able to accomplish more of what he wanted than Obama has. Obama is just one more combatant in Washington.

Again, I reference that 98% quote from Boehner. If his opponents got 98% of what they want and you call him a combatant, what would have happened if he wasn't a combatant?

Quote: Democrats are deflecting and distracting from Obama's failed promises.

A politician who didn't tell the truth! Gosh, I never thought that could ever happen! Confusedhock:

Duh. He overstated his power. I honestly don't remember the last time I saw a presidential candidate who didn't do that.

Quote:Obama is the current president.
Candidate Obama promised to make changes to cut the national debt in half, cut spending, create 'shovel ready' green jobs.

Once again, I get to tell you the Republicans are getting pretty much everything they want. Obama's biggest flaw is that he's letting them do it. He's trying to be bipartisian with them and they're still telling him he's too extreme. Yet, they're also criticizing him because the policies they encourage and put forth aren't working. You can't claim you got 98% of the budget you wanted and then turn around and blame it on the other guy.

Quote:Obama has done the opposite of what he promised and increased federal spending. Our national debt is now reaching $16 trillion dollars. He now says there no shovel ready jobs and the unemployment rate remains above 8% and the liberals distract and deflect.

Yes, he has increased federal spending and the national debt. Want to guess how much we raised the debt with Bush? Remember, we went from a budget surplus to a deficit in his 8 years. Nobody said jack, except maybe Cheney who said "Deficits don't matter."

You see, while you're looking at how things are at one point in time and judging good/bad with them, I'm looking at how things have changed during a certain specific length of time. Remember what things were like when Obama came to office? The economy was in a tailspin with huge job losses. He hasn't fixed everything yet, but the tailspin is over. I think the biggest knock against him is that while things are getting better, the recovery is much more gradual than the initial recession was. The change Obama brought was that we weren't getting worse and worse anymore. Remember what the country was like when we took a hard right? We elected Bush and later a congress full of Republicans when the country had peace and prosperity and unprecedented economic growth and 8 year later, that all crashed. Yes, Bush changed things and he used a moderate version of the policies being espoused by today's Republican party to do it.

Quote:Which economy would you prefer? The one we have now or the one that Obama promised?

Of course I'd rather have the economy Obama promised. I'd also have preferred the economy that was promised in campaigns by Bush, both Jr. and Sr., Regean and Carter. I think anyone would, unless you're such an ideologue that you'd rather the country crash and burn than for your opponent to take credit for something good. The first rule to politics is that elected officials always promise the world when they're in campaign mode.
