The problem is that people demand a single "magic" solution. The problem is actually quite simple. We need to cut defense spending, raise taxes on the rich, eliminate tax loopholes, and reign in entitlement programs....including corporate welfare.
The trick is to find a consensus willing to do all that. The republicunts are only in it to reward the rich and the democrats lack the political will to stick to a plan.
BTW, we see the same problem with almost every issue. Gun violence requires strict control of assault weapons ( yes, they DO exist!) AND we need to do something about the conditions which lead to violence. Don't hold your breath waiting for a consensus to build around that program, either.
