At it's core philosophy is indeed just like that. The speculation is much needed. On the other hand, many many people go beyond the core with a load of bullshit assertions that really could do with some much needed empirical support, some evidence, etc. I say, like most things that can be great - 90% or more of it is bullshit...
... on that matter I quote from Bruce Lee
: "Use only that which works, and take it from any place you can find it."
Anyway, what there is that's good in it, is certainly worth it IMO. I love practising philosophy at its core. Or IOW I love speculating or... 'philosophizing' in general.
