Won't happen, though. We've tried forced sterilization before in the US but black and native American women were the primary targets, often being surgically sterilized without their knowledge. It was such a disaster that I don't see us repeating it. And that doesn't even bring up the biological issues that come up from the body not producing sex hormones.
Plus, I can't see either political party going for it. The left won't be fond of the 'cruel and unusual punishment' aspect and the right will probably just want to execute pedophiles. Honestly, I can see that happening: child sex crimes are punishable by death. I would probably be ok with it if I didn't see so many flaws with the justice system in general and especially the death penalty.
I think something similar might be likely, though, and I would be better with this: you're convicted of a sex crime, the judge has the option of offering you voluntary castration in leu of prison time. I feel like the job of our justice system is to protect us; if the judge feels like the offender won't re-offend if their sex drive is taken, I would be more comfortable with that.
