Why is the sin nature inherited?

Ok, I'll keep it simple for you Christians: If Adam and Even were made perfect and then sin entered the world when Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowledge and as a consequence Adam and Eve were now imperfect, how is it fair for all of their descendent's to be born imperfect and sinful? Isn't it a bit unfair for the descendants to be punished for the sins of the father? Shouldn't everyone be born perfect?

Apparently, if Adam and Eve did not eat of the tree, then we'd all be running naked in some tropical paradise having a good time with no knowledge of sin.

If you're a Christian, and you do not share this traditional understanding of the story of eden, please provide scriptural evidence to support your different understanding.

This kind of justice exists throughout the Old Testament. Even the very 10 Commandments reflect our Lord's sense of justice where the children can be held accountable for the sins of the parents.

Second Commandment:

Exodus 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

And our Lord's no liar.

Genesis 9:24-25 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

Exodus 34:6-7 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,
Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

Deut 23:2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
