His premise was not "Christians beat their kids and no one else does," so no, you were not pointing out a contradiction. You were saying, atheists do it too, as if it refuted the point. I can't recall the name of the logical fallacy, but there is a name for it. I think it's, "I know you are, but what am I?" 
Where the fuck did we say that the punishment had to be eked out. You said punishment is a secular thing, ignoring the supposed punishments in the Bible. You presumably believe in hell and that god can send people there. So, you tell me whether that is secular or not.
