It seems that the vast majority want their worldview to be true so they'll rationalize their beliefs in anyway they can in order to make sense out of them. A loving God that will provide you with ultimate bliss in the afterlife for eternity instead of being in deep sleep without any dreams is something that believers find too comforting to let go of.
