I grew up and lived and worked in the poor neighborhoods in the inner city, (until about 12 years ago), the South Side of Columbus, Ohio. My parents were the working poor and that's how our family lived...poor. What money my parents did earn, my Dad would blow it on his expensive hobbies and on his leisure time while myself and my siblings went without new clothes and shoes for school....my Dad is the perfect example of the attitudes of those living in the poor inner-city neighborhoods, (with the exception that he actually had a job and worked),...selfish, lazy, and will sacrifice nothing that interferes with their leisure time...I went to racially mixed inner-city public schools, poor whites and poor blacks...I was in High School at the peak of the so-called black revolution in the early '70's...and it was hell being white and going to school at that time...you want to talk about racism and violence...for sure, you didn't want to be caught alone somewhere by a group of blacks,...and the poor whites who lived in those neighborhoods were no better...and still aren't....they all have a con game and they all have some sad story...and they all think they're owed something without working for it....if you wake up one morning with something missing from your property, all you have to do is walk next door to your neighbor's house and see your stuff on their front porch...You call the police only to be told there's nothing they can do if you can't prove it's yours while your thieving neighbors sit there with smirks on their faces...Opportunities to do better?...pssshhhttt.....not if those opportunities mean giving up their leisure time and their drugs, their whoring about, and their alcohol...I was also a Democrat until Ronald Reagan and have voted Republican ever since.(December 11, 2012 at 8:40 pm)A Theist Wrote: LOL! Actually, his story is quite similar to what I've heard from my boyfriend. His previously conservative political beliefs were entirly dependant on his being in what I call 'the mormon bubble.' When he went to college, even just a local community college, it broke the bubble and he saw that the minorities and how they were treated. He learned facts about how the government works that went specifically against the Fox News dogma he had been raised with. He learned about geology and astronomy, defying the creationist beliefs he had been taught. Most importantly, he met other queer people and realized we're not the evil deviants he thought we were. And once his mind had been stretched by these ideas, these experiences and even these people, it can't go back no matter how hard you try.
I'm wondering what those business classes say about a shrinking customer base for business, because that's what why I suspect the economic recovery has been so sluggish. Big corporations and banks bounced back pretty quick because they got so much government assistance. Little guys, like the home owners who had their home repossessed or the millions of people who wound up laid off, they didn't get any help. When they lost their money or home or whatever, the demand the created was suddenly taken out of the market and hasn't really been replaced. We need a champion for demand side economics.
"When he went to college, even just a local community college, it broke the bubble and he saw that the minorities and how they were treated."...He learned all that in college, how minorities are treated?...Ha ha....try actually growing up and living in the inner-city and see what it's really all about....you liberal whites who lived sheltered lives and who've probably never been to an inner city have no clue what you're talking about...but somehow a college course in social studies makes you an expert...
"Little guys, like the home owners who had their home repossessed or the millions of people who wound up laid off, they didn't get any help."...That's not entirely true...because there is federal help available for homeowners who are facing foreclosure....The Hardest Hit Program, is one of those, for example....The federal government will help struggling homeowners to stop foreclosure proceedings and will work with your mortgage company to pay the back amount owed, to a certain considerable amount, in addition to a loan remodification that will reduce your current interest and house payments.....Hardest Hit Program. and there's also the 'Home Affordable Modification Program, i.e....
