The greed? No matter how much the wealthy have, it's never enough. The despising of people who don't have the opportunities they were born into? If apathy and selfishness are part of the problem, the wealthy are just as much to blame as the poor.

What leveling of the playing field are you talking about...you mean throwing more money at the problem and expanding more government programs? How about redistributing the wealthy's fortunes? No one needs a personal fortune in the 10's or 100's of millions, let alone in the billions. If they want a fortune that size, well, they are selfish, greedy bastards. If we redistributed all of America's wealth, waited a few generations, and I guarantee you it wouldn't be the currently wealthy that have amassed more wealth. You want to talk about poor work ethics, what about the snot-nosed, rich, bastard who has his mom call his college professor to protest a poor grade that was well deserved because he did not apply himself? He'll still have a job waiting for him when he graduates though, at daddy's law firm.
The poor are apathetic because virtually nothing they do makes any difference to their condition. The wealthy are apathetic because they can afford to be, they don't have to do anything and still have everything materialistically needed (or desired) to live.

Struggling with addiction, violence, poverty. I saw lots of children, who were suffering for no other reason than having the audacity of being born into poverty. How dare they?
