The problem is as I pointed out; our bodies are programmed to wage wars against diseases...but the diseases are no longer waging wars. They don't have the numbers. We exterminate them. Our immune systems, pumped up and ready to duke it out with the barbarian hordes are coming to the battlefield and finding nothing except a few farmers. Our immune systems are therefore waging wars against farmers because, well, they were told there was a threat, they came upon the farmers, and that must be the threat. What the hell else is there, right?
The obsession with waging war against microbes with chemicals is absurd. I don't even fear SARS. I don't fear the bird flu, or the swine flu, or west nile. Every time this "horrible disease" comes up, it kills maybe six or seven people. You're not going to stop a fucking superplague with fucking chlorox.
