PC! You can build a PC for less than $2000 with the same specs as a similarly configured Mac Pro that costs $8000+
I'm not going to say that Apple doesn't make high-quality products - they certainly do. And of course the appeal is great - they are pretty, (very shiny) and are arguably easier to use than a PC. But to be honest, if you have half a brain, you can open an internet browser on a PC, which is what the average person will be doing most of the time..
If you're heading into the graphic design, film, or music industry, macs have become the industry standard.
I enjoy PC's far more, but that's just a preference of mine. But on a more objective note, the price per performance ratio of PCs is significantly better than that of a Mac. You're basically paying for the brand/nice metal/shininess. I'm too functional and practical to be attracted to spending hundreds/thousands of dollars on those items alone..
