hmm... can't believe I haven't answered this thread!
Physics... College degree in Technical Physical Engineering (you figure out what the heck that is... I sure haven't yet), PhD with the same name, but applied to plasma physics in tokamaks and other toroidal devices.
I'm now mostly a programmer performing signal analysis of some sort... mainly 2D images, but also 1D time traces.
