When I grew up in Detroit I learned one thing rather quickly, and it's stuck with me the rest of my life: If you see flashing red and blue lights, run. It doesn't matter if you're innocent or guilty. If those red and blue lights are coming for you, get the fuck out of the area.
The cops were just as dangerous as the street gangs or muggers were. Actually more so. The gangs and muggers didn't have government sanction to do what they did. If a cop shot you for whatever reason he felt like, nothing was going to happen. Cops in Detroit are fucking dirty. Same shit happened in Los Angelos during the mid-90s; cops were just gangsters with more professional organization, outfits, and equipment.
It's hard to trust the idea that the cops will arbitrate against any crime metted out against you, when half the time the crimes being committed against you were by the fucking cops to begin with.
