However, it does not speak of this happening all the time, but only at the "end of days" after the "coming of the christ" (25:31), so where these souls go right after death before that time, according to Christian theology, can cannot really be derived from this section of the text.

I remember you saying that Sheol is supposed to be a place of non-existence. The writers of the Matthew gospel must have had that idea in mind - the dead cease to exist until christ returns.
