I'm a no-frills atheist. Just plain old bewilderment toward the very idea of gods. But hey I'm fine with everyone else believing what they like. I don't think we're marching toward utopia any time soon so I don't begrudge anyone their religion.
My great grandfather came over from France and converted from Catholicism to become a Methodist preacher (minister?, shaman?, pope?) and that's the kind of church my younger siblings were dragged to after my father retired and I moved out. I and the other older siblings stopped going to church before I started school. I have no memories of going to church beyond singing "This little light of mine". I don't recall having to handle snakes or speak in tongues. So I'd say I got away without too much damage.
