I may be pushing an overly politically correct state of mind, but I do think we need to pause before we assume a Muslim who did something insane did so because of Islam. If Rayaan did something crazy, I would never think Islam first. I would think he had lost his mind. This is just an example, but do you see anything radical about Rayaan? Do you think it is possible that he or someone like him in terms of religiousness could do something terrible? I do. Of course, not in the sense that I think it likely. I just think it possible and that possibility stops me from jumping straight to Islam bashing.
I agree it's not about jumping to conclusions, it's about a long history of similar attacks worldwide by a group that is an extreme minority in the United States. I think what a small percentage of the US population is Muslim is significant here. If this attack occurred in France or India there would be a greater chance that it's just a random psycho. If Rayaan were to do something violent I would be shocked period.

The chances of sociopaths being Muslim (.8%) doesn't affect the chances of the attackers being sociopaths. I mean, the chances of sociopaths being Christian would be something like 90% (assuming 90% of the population are Christian), but that doesn't mean Christians are more likely to be sociopaths.
Of course it effects it, because there are so few sociopaths and so few Muslims the probability of a sociopathic (non-religiously motivated) attack by a Muslim in the US is far far less than that of a sociopathic attack (non-religiously motivated) by a Christian. I don't know why this concept seems to be so hard to understand.
