No Dawud. He's not misunderstanding you. What you're giving us is a very, very typical Muslim apologist response. You haven't yet acknowledged that there is an evil side of Islam because you don't want to open your eyes to it. You probably cherry pick the verses about tolerance etc and believe that they have greater weightage, or should be given greater weightage than the verses about killing infidels, going to war, and the violent side of jihad (not the typical non-violent Jihad peaceful muslims love to propagate as the only, "true" meaning of Jihad - while ignoring the promises of paradise and eternal happiness when one is martyred in war in the name of Islam). Well, that's your view and world-view of Islam - which is not shared by the other groups who consider killing etc to be a message of their Allah as well.
I've seen this before (in fact, I grew up with people who talk like this 24/7) - blame the west, blame the media, blame everyone else for the crimes of people who kill in the name of Islam, without being sincere in your efforts to research where their justifications for religious violence are really coming from.
