I'm sorry to hear you were raised JW, as you can probably imagine we Anglicans and most Christians despise them and especially dislike their heretical practises.
The topic of ex-communication is Biblical. 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15, Titus 3:10, 1 Corinthians 5:1-2. The problem with the JW's is that they take it well out of context. Disown your own family members? Yeah, I really don't think that's what Paul had in mind when he wrote those epistles...
