My take on Nu-Who is already on record, so if no-one minds I'll link it rather than type it all out again. On the whole "female Doctor" thing, it's interesting that this first came up at the end of Tom Baker's tenure, when - in mischievous mood - he commented along the lines of "I wish the next Doctor all the best, whoever he or she may be". We've had that bloody millstone ever since. Think of it: while most Time Lord characters have had fairly gender-neutral names, it's notable that the female ones were invariably referred to as Time Ladies. Then there was the individual who went by the name of the Meddling Monk (are there any lady monks?). The Master would have to become the Mistress. And as for Susan, the Doctor's granddaughter...
