This would be a good time to introduce this idea... How about when a woman (or man) decides to leave her/his career to have kids? What happens when the kids don't need a full-time stay-at-home parent and the parent wants to go back to work, but can't get a job due to a 7 year gap in their résumé?? What about allowable gaps for taking time away to raise kids? Having kids is detrimental to the career of a parent who stays home. It seems to me, if society values parents staying home, then these types of gaps should be deemed acceptable, but they're not. So long as the person has the required skills for the position, gaps shouldn't weigh in to their ability to get a job.
