Really, I think there's a lot of confusion in that wikipedia article over what DID is (and how it's different from MPD). The two often overlap, but one is the observation that the person disassociates from the world so much that they don't register their 'physical' state as their own, such to the point that when they look in a mirror they see a being that they do not recognize as themselves... whereas MPD is the observation of multiple persons within one vessel.
Multiple personalities might very well recognize their form as a part of them, infact every one of them might agree that the vessel they share is their own (whether they be territorial or communal/symbiotic is not relevant)... but if one of these personalities has DID: they are disconnected, separated, or otherwise split off from 'the reality' around them, such as to be in an independent (or interdependent) portion of a reality that has formed up around them.
I'd like to test a number of things about DID... really, I should just go get a sociology degree and get started. If only I didn't think such were a waste of time, and if only I didn't have to take classes irrelevant of the subjects I've an interest in.
