Simple, you do or perform the practice and if the practice give you good result then you know that the theory was correct.
Religions lost the way to do the practice long long time ago and in the meantime have replaced it with worthless rituals like the rosary, the mass, the prayers and other things.
These rituals give you 0 (zero) positive results so at this stage where you guys screw all the things up you possibly can not expect that the practice related to your theory will give you any positive result.

Hell does not exist except on this earth where you are the maker of your own destiny so you are always in time to change your destiny provided that you wake up and grow up.
One day Buddha was crossing a large river with two of his disciples in a boat.
The two disciples and the Buddha were working very hard rowing but they realized that the boat was hardly making any progress so they ask the Buddha why.
The Buddha said to them.........THE ONLY WAY TO ADVANCE AND PROGRESS IS TO JETTISON THE WEIGHT.
That is also your very problem.
You carry on a huge weight that prevent you from advancing.
Once you jettison the weigh of your religious dogmas then you will be able to see the reality in the right perspective.
