Shit, I have a guy on another board whose name is EX MINISTER! Ayaan Hersi Ali also once believed and desperately wanted to be a good Muslim. When I first met my younger biological sister, we were both put up for adoption, when we met as adults in the mid 90s she was a believer and took me to her church. Now she and her husband are flaming atheists.
Will there be people who will never change? Sure, but when you look at the long term change in humans, we always seem to adapt.
If our species never questioned social norms our species never would have left the caves.
I agree with everything you said in post 15. It is not that I think that change is always impossible, just bloody damned difficult. It took me a long time, and I was looking. So there you go. My sisters, no way. One's a nun, the other is a Sunday school teacher. Which is not surprising coming from a fanatically religious background. But I got out at least. So no, it isn't always impossible, just bloody difficult.
I wish it were not the case but humans in our evolution have always been afraid of change. I think that too is evolutionary, once you latch on to something you think works, no matter how false it may be, you cling to it because you see others do it so the safety in numbers does produce the affect of having more ability to produce offspring.
But the good part is we also prove that we are capable of change and the world has gotten better in many ways, not in all aspects, but many ways. And yes it is bloody difficult. It took me almost a decade to go from Catholic to deist to agnostic deist to finally agnostic atheist.
But like I said, most sane people no longer believe the earth is flat, although I am sure in many third world countries and even in the west you still have pockets of uneducated nuts who might still believe it.
So our species has always been a mixed bag. I just keep fighting for the side of reason, education and science.

They say also that the US and the European West are afraid of the "Islamic project" because they know that it is a successful ideology which will destroy their colonial ambitions.
They say also that the reason their countries are retarded and poor is that Muslims there don't comply with God laws so God is punishing us for neglecting his religion.
Those people do really exist ! I see them everyday !
Fuck.... a couple of those douchebags come here everyday.
Meanwhile you have Megga Pators here in the states blame our social ills on not following god's laws. You have politicians here trying to use religion to turn back the clock on women's rights, and most certainly I see many on the right claim that our social ills are due to lack of prayer in school.
So we are simply in the west on less steroids than Islam is, but our right keeps wanting to sniff the same theocratic cocaine Islam does.
Humans don't like it when you fuck with their imaginary friends.
