I think I can relate myself to a user (hookakat1).
Being raised up in a religious country, I never really thought about why or how I came to be Christian--I just was. Prayed a lot, conformed to our traditions and was forced to do crap on the holy week (We actually have this "Do not bathe" and "Do not eat meat" tradition during black friday). I even studied in a sectarian school for six years during my elementary years.
Then one of my classmates during my junior year was an atheist (Quite a surprise, believe me. Atheists aren't too common around here. She was also very attractive haha!) which brought me to ask myself the question "Why doesn't she believe in God? ...No. Why do I believe in God?"
The idea grew and grew and after a year, I opened my eyes from the fantasy. Felt bad when I actually realized that I was just giving myself the illusion that I that someone's there watching and guiding me everyday, but at least I finally realized the truth. Bit of a shock for me, though. I've only been an atheist for two months now.
