Frankly, I think it requires a total change of perspective. As an atheist, your perspective (I think) is that you are the ultimate authority for you: you decide what is right and wrong, good and evil, and nobody, not even God, has a claim on your life. Everything, including your understanding of the Bible is decided by you. To understand the Bible as the revealed Word of God would require you to change this perspective such that God is and is the ultimate authority. If the Bible is not viewed with that perspective, the only thing you will get out of it is what you already think.
While I do consider myself the "ultimate authority" over mysefl; I am subject to the laws of the nation I belong to. My proposition is that both Christianity and Secular Humanism approach morals from a subjective viewpoint. I failed to make my point clear:
Secular Humanism trys to build a moral code based on what is best for society according to data obtained from that society
Christianity trys to build a moral code based on interpretation of scripture.
Both methods rely on the interpretation of humans so they are both subject to the flaws from human interpretation.
