About the house in the pit.... don't you think it could have been easier to... make a mound and build it on the mound? instead of digging a hole and building there...
You're missing the point. The obvious and easy ways are not an option for prophets, they must work in mysterious ways, like living in a pit. It also demonstrates that it rained everywhere but in that pit.
