What's worse is he's not even saying that faith-heads are smarter based on silly, inconvenient things like IQ scores, but that they live smarter based on Pascal's Wager. His entire essay hangs from the single peg of "well, religious folk tend to be happier, live longer and have more kids. Irreligious people must therefore be less intelligent if they choose to live their lives without those benefits." He even states it without shame when he says that if non-believers are wrong they go to Hell.
Another reg flag, steeped in sour grapes, is that oh-so-subtle bit about "anyone who thinks otherwise is mentally ill". In context, not necessarily non-believers but literally anyone who doesn't agree with him.
I can put into five words what he used a thousand to say. Sean Thomas is an idiot. Think the Torygraph would pay me for that the same as they paid him?

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'
