The standard for love I read in the NT was something I can agree with.
Love is supposed to be patient and kind. It's not supposed to be envious, boastful, proud, rude, self-seeking, or easily angered.
If what you're feeling from someone doesn't feel like that, maybe they're in error calling it love.
We all know we can't love like that perfectly, all the time. Sometimes we shift from love to jealousy or spite or scoring brownie points, and in that moment we're failing to love. To be authentic, we have to be honest with ourselves and the other person when that happens.
Maybe some Christians really can love everyone unconditionally, at least at times. My advice to them is to show, don't tell.
