On another note...whatza tent? The closest I got to a protected shelter was a shallow trench dug out by my body. Not with a shovel, either...the damned C-141 pilots had a bad habit of making us jump at 500ft...we hit the pan hard.
Tents are those big green things that REMFs sleep in. Back in the day, we were issued canvas shelter halves - I doubt anyone in the Air Force has seen one. You know, the type who's design dates to the fucking Civil War. Almost completely useless. I understand that the Army has discovered nylon these days.
Oohhh...yeah. Not familiar with either.
The 82d, back in the day, didn't allow for field jackets or sleeping bags while on winter maneuvers. You sucked it up, or moved with a purpose. (Staving off hypothermia is a purpose.)
I still hate the thought of camping.
