The idea is not that it cures homelessness per se, but that it can help some of the people. A good many of them just need someone to be held accountable to. Meaning, they need to be treated like kids in a sense and given responsibilities. If you take them off of the street, you can save money by not having to pay for medical bills. Especially in some places that are not as nice year-round as those in warmer climates.
And this is where the "out of sight, out of mind" concept is the most damning.
If we really do want to help our veterans, it means not turning our back on them when they get home.
(I am certainly guilty of not dropping change in the bucket of every homeless person I meet, but I certainly support government assistance for them using taxes)
