Yup - you nailed it. I am working my way through the TBS Kalam argument (amongst others) and just thought, tangenitally, "is radioactive decay material cause without efficient cause" so I thought I'd ask.
Of course - if it is - then the universe having a beginning does not necessitate an efficient cause, only a material one and the need for God disappears as we have a known example - decay.
This puts it one up on an example of efficient cause with no material cause for which we have no example.
