I agree, but I'm wondering if there were a reason the pastor asked the question, seeing as how the guy was violent enough to beat him up for asking. I'm guessing he was probably exhibiting some signs of abusive or controlling behavior.
If some pastor asked my wife that question out of the blue, I'd be pretty indignant and would probably leave at that point, but since I'm a nonviolent person there's no way I'd beat someone senseless because of it.

The very next day, my wife got a call from the pastor's wife asking her if she felt safe with me. My wife told her exactly how inappropriate she was being for asking the question. The next email I got from the pastor was an invitation to find another church "Immediately". FUCK PASTORS!
When I told my wife of my atheism, she went to the local priest to talk to him about it. That cocksucker told her that usually whenever someone becomes an atheist it's because they're having an affair. It took a lot of convincing before my wife believed that I wasn't having an affair (I wasn't, never have, and never will).
The funny thing is that priest got kicked out of the church because he was having sex with his secretary (incidentally someone I went to school with) who was also stealing money from the church. So it was someone having an affair accusing others of having an affair.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.
