The problem here is that for some, saying "blow jesus out of your ass" is a terrible insult, and there is a difference between saying something like that as an expression that the argument presented is bullshit, to harassing a member repeatedly in the same thread with the sentence I gave an example.
Lets take this situation:
User X comes along with a beating-a-dead-horse argument in thread A; I reply "Go blow jesus out of your ass". No further interaction or I say "because R,S,T reasons".
User X makes another thread with another stupid-long-dead-argument in thread B; I reply "fuck you and your godboy". No further interaction or I say "because R,S,T reasons" .
Should I, in this case, be punished?
Lets take another situation:
User X comes to the forum with long dead argument A; I reply "blow jesus out of your ass"; user A replies back "but why do you replied like that?"; I reply back "blow jesus out of your ass"; User X replies back "But I asked you a question"; I say "blow jesus out of your ass"; and so on so forth.
This is what I think is the scope of the no flaming rule. Our pal John V is just interested in whining about Minimalist, its clear he has a pet peeve against him, but this forum should not be hostage to a whining kid. If I say one time that "That guy is an idiot!" in a thread, I shouldn't be punished, but If I reply to each post of said guy with "That guy is an idiot" then I should be punished. I should have the freedom to express my opinion about someone, and if asked back, I should tell them why. Else, if I reply with another insult, then I am truly disrupting the discussion.
Our dear John V is not interested in the rules or their enforcement, he is simply trying to get rid of the nuissance that Minimalist seems to be to his beliefs, in less than honorable ways.
