I don't know for sure, but from what you have said, I have a hunch that your dad probably subscribes to the popular theology known as dispensationalism eschatology - which originated in the mid-1800's by John Nelson Darby - further popularized by C.I. Scofield. It is a clever way to fudge and explain away all of the unfulfilled prophecies in the bible. That is why there are 40,000 different denominations (literally) and thousands of different interpretations. They all have different ways of making excuses for the same exact problem - all of the biblical predictions and prophecies that didn't come to pass. If these prophecies did come to pass as the bible said they would - there would be no need for all of the different interpretations and divisions - and no need for the relatively new theology known as dispensationalism. Currently, almost all Protestants and many Catholics subscribe to this theology. It's a very convenient system. They refuse to accept reality, so they claim that almost everything is still in the future. I call it, CYA Theology.
