Huh. I was under the impression that the reason for the disaster was a typhoon with 200+ mile per hour winds.
The storm is simply expectable nature. The area gets strong storms every year. This last one was simply a bit stronger than the others.
A disaster occurs when mankind is not prepared for natural events. When they are prepared, no disaster occurs even though the storm is at the same level of ferocity.
As for the secular nature of the Philippine government, I never even alluded to the idea that they were theocraticly controlled. They suffer from the same stupidity that the U.S. does, in spite of being secular, the ignorant religious masses affect their government and their country for the worse.
