I respect people that deserve it. Respect is earned.
People's silly beliefs, however, do not deserve respect.
When I am debating a theist, I try my best to show them respect. However, when it comes to their beliefs, I won't hold back. The problem is, many Christians (and Muslims) seem to take poking fun at their beliefs as an attack on their person.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
