The idea of death can be romanticized - I do it myself. I too see death as a (someday) nice release from the tensions and responsibilities and mental work of this world. At the same time, I have seen more death firsthand than many people have. It's not pretty. It's not easy. It's not romantic. It's not drifting peacefully off. It's a body struggling to continue existing. It's lungs not getting enough oxygen, a brain recoiling against the lack of nutrients, etc. The best we can hope for is that our bodies are undergoing that process unconsciously when the time comes.
This is why euthanasia gets my vote
