Because I live with an extremely painful neuropathic condition that causes nearly constant pain. NSAIDs aren't effective for my condition and are dangerous in the dosages I would need to take to get any relief; opiates are highly addictive and dangerous; and drugs specifically prescribed for neuropathy are largely ineffective at dosages that any sane doctor would prescibe.
Not that it's any of your goddamned business what I choose to put in my body, much as it's none of my goddamned business what you choose to do with yours.
P.S. It also happens to be enjoyable.
