No one needs to do drugs. There are any number of reasons that people use drugs, many of them bad (IMO). Pot seems to provide the benefit that drug users seek (makes them feel good) without the adverse side effects of harder drugs, including addiction.
There are a great many things we do not need to do. We do them because they make us feel good in some way. As long as the cost in terms of health or well being isn't too high (pun not intended) I don't see a problem.
