If I would choose between 2 alternatives you presented I definitely pick materialistic life.
People fucking each other, partying, having good time, not sticking noses in other peoples business and all this without stupid feeling of guilt(because of religion I felt guilty even if I didn't do anything bad) and without fear of hell.
Versus.
Restrained life in delusion where you constantly think you are being watched 24/7 and a constant concern of eternal torture unless you obey all the restraints.
Seems like a no brainer.
