The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil - This to me means that if I ate an apple I would know Good and Evil. This then implies that by not eating from the tree I have no awareness of what Good and Evil Is.
Imagine saying to a toddler 2 years old - Don't eat that or you will surely die. Whats the odds the toddler will understand you and make the right decision.
The same applies in the Garden. How can Adam go against God which is an (Evil) act if he did not know what (Evil) was. So if Adam did not know that Going against God was wrong then how can he be punished for not knowing.
Its the same as you hitting a child when they do something wrong but not actually telling them until after the fact why you hit them - You never gave them a chance.
